Solutions package

Mechanised Tunnelling Package

A TBM-led equipment package for tier-1 civils tendering metro, rail, road, water and headrace tunnels in Australia. The package pairs the primary shield to the ground with a cross-passage cutting method, shaft-sinking plant for launch, intervention and station shafts, and a continuous muck-haulage train from face to surface. Probe-and-pre-support drilling pairs with intelligent grouting plant for annular and consolidation duties. A secondary-lining train and a radar acceptance vehicle close out cross-passage and station-box scope. FRP fit-out covers permanent works in chloride or stray-current environments. The shield envelope on offer covers the full CRCHI range, from small-diameter metro EPB and slurry shields up to mega-bore machines for road and river-crossing alignments.

Mechanised Tunnelling Package

Who it's for

Tier-1 civil contractors tendering metro, rail, road, water and headrace tunnels using TBM-led methodology in Australia.

When to specify this package

  • Twin-bore alignments over 3 km with multiple cross-passages and shafts.
  • Mixed urban ground, water-bearing strata, or harbour and river crossings.
  • Long hard-rock drives requiring segmental or shotcrete-lined finish.
  • Stray-current or chloride-exposed permanent works needing FRP fit-out.

Scope of supply

Shaft sinking

Launch, intervention, ventilation and station shafts. Select by depth, diameter and ground; both options run with surface-based crews and a small site footprint.

Probe drilling, annular and consolidation grouting

Probe-ahead is drill the hole, then pump the grout. The drilling rig handles forward exploration and pre-support holes; the grouting plant covers probe, annular and consolidation duties with automated log capture for QA.

Cross-passage and shaft dust extraction

TBM workface dust is captured at the cutterhead and screw conveyor. Cross-passage, shaft and station-box drill-and-blast and shotcrete scope generate localised dust that needs a mobile collector.

Secondary-lining QA acceptance (cross-passages, station boxes)

Non-destructive thickness, density and rebar-distribution checks across the secondary lining before track-bed works. The radar vehicle clears long alignments inside the testing window.

Engineering and R&D

CRCHI Australia brings full OEM engineering and R&D capacity to every package. Most catalogue equipment is configurable to project requirements; project-specific scope is engineered to brief; and where a project calls for it, a complete solution is developed from the ground up. Typical tailoring on TBM-led drives includes shield diameter, cutterhead geometry, segmental ring design, back-up arrangement and FRP fit-out moulds matched to the alignment and ground.
