Underground LHD
WJ-6 Underground Diesel LHD
The CRCHI WJ-6 is an underground diesel load-haul-dump for hard-rock metal mining. It picks up blasted ore at the face or drawpoint after the blast and vent steps of either the development or production cycle and trams it to a haulage truck such as the UK-40 or to an orepass. The standard SAE bucket is 6 m³ with 14 t tramming capacity, 310 kN maximum breakout force and 275 kN maximum tractive force, sized for a 4.5 m by 4.5 m tunnel cross-section. Operating weight is 39 t bare and 53 t loaded. A Volvo TAD1351VE diesel rated 285 kW at 1900 rpm drives a DANA 6422 four-gear forward and reverse transmission through a DANA C9572 torque converter to KESSLER D106 axles with limited-slip differentials, giving 23.5 km/h maximum in 4th gear. The cab is ROPS and FOPS certified to ISO 3471 and ISO 3449, fully enclosed, air-conditioned, with a 7-inch colour display, reversing camera, three-point boarding handle and a door interlock that locks out the boom, bucket and steering hydraulics while the door is open. An intelligent control system monitors each subsystem and surfaces fault alarms on the in-cab display, with the gearbox controller logging gearbox status and trip data. The frame is welded Q460 high-strength steel optimised by finite-element analysis, with HARDOX wear-resistant blade and side edges on the bucket.

Overview
Applications
Underground hard-rock metal mining muck handling. The WJ-6 picks up blasted ore at the face or drawpoint after the blast and vent steps of either the development or production cycle and trams it to a haulage truck or an orepass. The 4.5 m by 4.5 m tunnel cross-section requirement is a primary procurement input. It pairs naturally with the UK-40 underground haulage truck, with the LHD running the short load-tram-dump leg between face and truck loading bay or orepass while the truck handles the long haul to the surface portal or shaft station. Typical duties include drift advance mucking, drawpoint loading on sub-level or block-cave operations, and rehandle between stockpile and orepass. Suited to fleets ranging in altitude from -1500 m to +3000 m, ambient -15 to +45 degrees Celsius. Civil drill-and-blast tunnels typically do not run a dedicated LHD, moving muck from the heading with excavators or wheel loaders instead; on mining-civil drives that do call for drawpoint-style mucking on a 4.5 m by 4.5 m section, the WJ-6 is offered as the mining-grade alternative through the hard-rock drill-and-blast methodology package.
Performance

Bucket motion times 8.9 s raise, 5.1 s lower, 2.6 s dump. Travelling speeds 4.6 / 8.0 / 13.7 / 23.5 km/h in 1st through 4th gear. Volvo TAD1351VE diesel rated 285 kW at 1900 rpm and 1965 Nm at 1200 rpm, 12.78 L displacement, in-line 6, four-stroke direct injection with turbo and intercooler, electronic fuel injection, liquid-cooled with cooler fan, average fuel consumption 28.5 L/h at 50 percent load on a 430 L tank. DANA 6422 transmission with electronic gearshift, automatic shift control, four gears forward and reverse. DANA C9572 single-stage three-component torque converter, no lock-up. KESSLER D106 front and rear axles, limited-slip differentials, rear axle plus or minus 8 degrees oscillation. 26.5R25 tyres. Hydraulic oil tank 400 L. Welded Q460 high-strength steel frame with bearing-connection central articulation, optimised by finite-element analysis; HARDOX wear-resistant blade and side edge on the bucket. Volvo TAD1351VE diesel with electronic fuel injection, pre-filter plus two-stage dry air filtration, catalytic purifier and muffler, Tier 3 and Euro Stage III. DANA 6422 transmission with electronic gearshift control and the gearshift lever integrated with the steering lever, four gears forward and reverse, automatic gearshift control. DANA C9572 single-stage three-component torque converter, no lock-up. KESSLER D106 axles with limited-slip differentials. Spring-applied hydraulically-released multidisc wet service brakes on all wheels, functioning as service, parking and emergency brake; automatic brake activation and electrically driven emergency brake release pump standard; brake system meets GB/T33921 and JB/T13003. Centre-point articulated steering with two double-acting cylinders, hydraulic pilot control for bucket hydraulics. 7-inch colour in-cab display with intelligent control and fault-alarm system, reversing camera, programmable logic controller with built-in diagnostic and alarm system. 24 V electrical system with 24 V 150 A alternator, two 12 V 200 Ah batteries, 24 V 7 kW starter, LED work lights. Fully enclosed FOPS and ROPS certified cab to ISO 3449 and ISO 3471 with HVAC, safety hammer, removable escape glass, three-point boarding access and cab-door interlock for boom, bucket and steering hydraulics. Standard equipment design conforms to JB/T 5500 (Underground LHD) and JB/T 5501 (test method) and GB 25518 (Underground load-haul-dump, safety requirements). Optional devices include a centralised fire-extinguishing system, emergency steering electric pump, driving recorder and LOS / video remote control.
Benefits
Slots into the standard underground metal-mining cycle as the load-tram-dump leg between face and haulage truck or orepass. Paired with the UK-40 underground haulage truck on a coordinated cycle, the WJ-6 shortens the round-trip at the face while the truck takes the long haul up the decline or to the shaft. Multi-disc wet brakes acting as service, parking and emergency on all wheels, automatic brake activation, FOPS and ROPS certified cab to ISO 3449 and ISO 3471, door interlock locking out boom, bucket and steering hydraulics while the door is open, and an intelligent fault-alarm system on a 7-inch colour display together give the operator visibility on every subsystem in real time. The Volvo TAD1351VE holds rated power across the -1500 m to +3000 m altitude band, and three independent radiator circuits hold cooling capacity in hot underground environments. Q460 frame with finite-element-optimised geometry and HARDOX bucket wear material extend service life. CRCHI Australia handles commissioning, spares and aftermarket nationally.
