Underground Mining Truck
UK-40 Underground Mining Truck
Articulated underground haulage truck for hard-rock metal mining, sized to a 5.5 m by 5.5 m lane cross-section. The UK-40 takes muck from the LHD tip or drawpoint and hauls it along the decline or haulage drive to the orepass, ventilation raise or shaft station, loaded at the truck bay by an LHD such as the WJ-6 tramming from the tighter development heading. Power comes from a Volvo TAD1650VE diesel rated at 405 kW with a DANA torque converter and an electronically controlled DANA 8821H automatic transmission giving eight forward gears from 5.8 to 36.2 km/h. The frame is built from Q460 high-strength alloy steel around a rotary central articulation seal that lets the front and rear frames swing freely on uneven floor while keeping all four 29.5R25 tyres loaded. The ROPS and FOPS certified cab carries a mechanically suspended operator seat, air conditioning, a 7-inch colour display and a reversing camera, with an intelligent monitoring system that watches engine, transmission, hydraulic and brake parameters in real time and raises an audible and on-screen alarm before a fault becomes an incident. Standard fitment includes a centralised fire extinguishing system, frame articulation lock, mechanical dump-box lock and three-point access, with a 40 tonne SAE heaped 2:1 payload as the procurement anchor.

Features
Heavy-duty haulage rated for a 40 tonne SAE heaped 2:1 payload on a 2 m3 dump box. Total loaded weight is 78.5 t against a 38.5 t operating weight, with 400 kN maximum breakout force at the box and a 15 s raise / 10 s lower cycle. Sized to clear the LHD tip at the rate set by a WJ-6 class loader on the connecting drive.
Sized for a 5.5 m by 5.5 m underground lane - 10.46 m overall length, 3.15 m transport width, 2.85 m transport height and 6.07 m dump-position height, with a R5.97 m inner / R9.65 m outer turning circle at the articulation stop.
Volvo TAD1650VE diesel, 405 kW at 1900 RPM and 2757 Nm at 1260 RPM - in-line six cylinder, 16.12 L, four-stroke direct injection with turbo and intercooler, Tier 3 / Euro Stage III with catalytic purifier and muffler, fuel electronic control injection and a two-stage dry air filter behind a pre-filter. Average fuel use at 50 percent load is 40.5 L/h on a 700 L tank.
DANA driveline for mine-duty haulage - DANA CL9672 single-stage three-component torque converter with lock-up, DANA 8821H electronically controlled automatic transmission with shift buffer and integrated gearshift and steering lever, DANA 53R-300 front and rear axles with standard differential and spring-applied hydraulically released wet multi-disc brakes on all four wheels. Eight forward gears, 5.8 to 36.2 km/h.
Rotary central articulation on a Q460 alloy-steel frame - waterproof rotary bearing seal at the articulation point lets the front and rear frames swing freely on uneven floor, keeping all four 29.5R25 tyres loaded on harsh surfaces and reducing centre-of-gravity shift on the decline. ±42 degree steering with two double-acting hydraulic steering cylinders.
ROPS and FOPS certified cab to ISO 3471 and ISO 3449, with a door interlock that prevents box-tip and steering movement while the cab door is open. Fully enclosed, air-conditioned, sound and heat insulated, with a mechanically suspended operator seat, tilt and telescopic steering, three-point access, a 7-inch colour display driving all monitoring and alarms, and a reversing camera as standard.
Intelligent monitoring and centralised safety fit - PLC-based control system with built-in diagnostics watches engine, transmission, hydraulics and brakes in real time, with on-screen fault prompts, low-oil and oil-pressure alarms, rotating beacon and yellow clearance lamp. Centralised 12 kg fire extinguishing system, exhaust pipe heat-insulation cotton, turbocharger and radiator fan shields, frame articulation lock, mechanical dump-box lock, safety hammer and wheel chocks come as standard.

Overview
Applications
Underground hard-rock metal mining haulage - drift, decline and production-level tramming where muck is loaded by an underground LHD at a drawpoint or stockpile and hauled to an orepass, raise tip or shaft station. Suits a metal-mine haulage cycle running long decline hauls at sustained gradients with the box loaded each lap. The 5.5 m by 5.5 m minimum lane cross-section pairs with a development LHD class above the WJ-6, so the UK-40 is the procurement choice when the decline and haulage drive are driven to that section. Operating envelope covers ambient temperatures of -15 to +45 degrees C and altitudes from -1500 m up to +3000 m at 25 degrees C without engine derate. Civil drill-and-blast tunnels typically do not run a dedicated underground haul truck, mucking to belt conveyors or working with articulated dump trucks at the heading instead; on mining-civil drives that do call for rubber-tyred long-haul on 5.5 m by 5.5 m lanes, the UK-40 is offered as the mining-grade alternative through the hard-rock drill-and-blast methodology package.

Functions
Diesel power transmission: Volvo TAD1650VE engine with fuel electronic control injection and pre-filter plus two-stage dry air filtration; DANA CL9672 single-stage three-component torque converter with lock-up; DANA 8821H electronically controlled automatic transmission with automatic gearshift and shift buffer; DANA 53R-300 fixed front and rear axles with standard differential. Hydraulics: hydraulic pilot control, two lifting cylinders, gear-type working pump, GB3683 hose standard, 350 L tank and a separate hydraulic oil radiator rated for operation at or below 50 degrees C. Steering: fully hydraulic centre-point articulation with two double-acting steering cylinders and a dedicated gear-type steering pump; optional emergency steering electric pump. Brakes: spring-applied hydraulically released wet multi-disc service brakes on all four wheels, doubling as emergency and parking brake, with automatic brake activation and an electrically driven emergency brake release pump as standard; system complies with GB/T33921 and JB/T13003. Cab and safety: ROPS / FOPS cab (ISO 3471 / ISO 3449), mechanically suspended operator seat, 7-inch colour display, reversing camera, LED work lighting, door interlock for box and steering, three-point access, safety hammer, centralised 12 kg fire extinguishing system, frame articulation lock and mechanical dump-box lock. Electrical: 24V system, 150 A alternator, 2 x 12V 200 Ah batteries, 24V / 7 kW starter. Control: PLC controller with built-in diagnostic and alarm system covering hydraulic, diesel, working / steering / accumulator / axle oil-supply pressure and torque-converter temperature.
Benefits
Pairs with an underground LHD on the same heading and clears 40 t per lap from the loader tip to the orepass or shaft station, freeing the LHD to keep mucking. The rotary central articulation seal is waterproofed and serviceable, so the front and rear frames keep swinging cleanly on wet, broken floor without dragging the centre of gravity off-axis. A DANA driveline with electronically controlled gearshift and a lock-up torque converter holds tractive effort on long declines and reduces operator workload across an eight-shift roster. The intelligent monitoring system reads the operating status of each on-board system in real time and surfaces fault information on the 7-inch display before it becomes an incident, while the door interlock prevents box-tip or steering movement with the cab door open. Centralised fire suppression, exhaust heat-insulation cotton and turbocharger and radiator fan shields come as standard rather than as an option pack. CRCHI Australia handles commissioning, spares and aftermarket support nationally.
