Sibiu-Pitesti Highway Lot 3 Poiana Tunnel

CRCHI delivered a 12.49 metre Earth Pressure Balance Shield TBM for Lot 3 of the Sibiu-Pitesti Highway, the largest-diameter CRCHI machine ever exported to Europe and the third CRCHI TBM supplied to Romania. The shield passed Factory Acceptance Test in September 2025 and is set to deploy on the 37.4 kilometre Lot 3 alignment crossing the Carpathian Mountains between Cornetu and Tigveni, including the 1.7 kilometre twin-tube Poiana Tunnel that is set to become Romania's longest highway tunnel. The machine has been engineered for clay, silty clay and sandy cobble strata under demanding hydrology, and carries CE certification covering its integrated gas detection, ventilation, emergency lighting, communications and power supply systems.
