Haitai Yangtze River Highway Tunnel

CRCHI supplied the 16.64 m ultra-large diameter slurry TBM "Jianghai" for the Haitai Yangtze River Tunnel, a 39.07 km two-way, six-lane highway crossing beneath the Yangtze. The machine has reached an advance to date of 4,658 metres on the planned 9,315 m TBM section, with the drive scheduled to continue beneath the river bed. Ground conditions combine silty clay with silt interlayers and fine sand composite formations, water pressure of 0.75 MPa, and roughly 75 metres of overburden. Settlement at the river crossing and bank levees must be controlled to the millimetre, supported by digital monitoring of cutterhead wear, grouting and main drive parameters.
